A police officer died on Tuesday after he was stabbed during an attack at a transit station located just outside the Pentagon. The suspect was shot by law enforcement and died at the scene, officials told The Associated Press.
The incident took place on a Metro bus station that is part of the Pentagon Transit Center. The bus platform is located just steps from the Pentagon, according to the Pentagon Protection Force Protection Agency. The building was placed on lockdown immediately following reports of shots being fired. The lockdown was later lifted for areas not part of the immediate crime scene.
Details regarding the stabbing are scarce at this time. Authorities have yet to provide any details regarding a motive or what led to the stabbing.
