Former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer Robbed and Assaulted in Oakland

Former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D, California) was assaulted and robbed Monday in Oakland. According to a tweet from Boxer’s Twitter account, the assault took place in the city’s Jack London Square neighborhood.

“The assailant pushed her in the back, stole her cell phone and jumped in a waiting car,” the tweet said. “She is thankful that she was not seriously injured.”

The Oakland Police Department confirmed a robbery at about 1:15 p.m. in the area, but didn’t identify the victim. The story was corroborated by Boxer’s son, Douglas Boxer, however. The suspect, who has not been identified, fled the scene in a waiting car.

Boxer — now 80-years-old — served as a U.S. Senator from 1993 until 2017. She then retired and her seat was ultimately filled by Kamala Harris.
