Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez picked up the win yesterday after he tossed three scoreless frames in innings 7-9. The win was the second on the season for the 25-year-old, who initially appeared to have only notched another solid outing. The win was an added bonus courtesy of a Luke Williams walk-off home run after the offense had been truly lifeless all night.
Heroics aside, the continued dominance of Ranger Suarez was the main takeaway from last night’s game. Suarez posted an identical stat line to his previous outing against the Nationals on June 5, meaning that he has consecutive outings in which he tossed three scoreless innings. In each outing he picked up the win, struck out three and allowed zero base-runners.
In short, the Venezuelan has been perfect over his last six innings of work.
All told, Suarez has yet to allow a run through 20 and a third in 2021. Since re-joining the team on May 9, he has allowed just six hits, which is good for a stellar WHIP of 0.492.
Needless to say, it has been quite awhile since the Phillies have had a middle reliever putting up the numbers Suarez has. With the team having issues with starters who can’t go deep into games, Suarez has proved invaluable.
