The Philadelphia Police Department has confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of 41 year-old Dunkin’ Donuts manager Christine Lugo. The shooting took place as Lugo was opening the shop early on Saturday morning.
On Tuesday, police announced that 39-year-old Keith Gibson was arrested in connection with the murder. Gibson allegedly shot Lugo even after she had given him all of the money. Police tracked him to a location in Delaware where he was then taken into custody.
Officials say that after the Lugo murder, Gibson shot and critically wounded a 19 year-old in Wilmington, Delaware. He also allegedly robbed a Rite Aid and pistol-whipped a female employee on Monday.
Police also suspect Gibson’s involvement in at least two other murders. He is being looked at in connection with the murder of T-Mobile manager Leslie Basilio last month in Elsmere, Delaware. Basilio was shot in the head and died at the scene after a suspect, now believed to be Gibson, robbed the store. Basilio’s car was found in Philadelphia on May 25th, just blocks away from the scene of the Lugo homicide.
Law enforcement also suspect Gibson’s involvement in the February murder of his own mother. They also suspect he could be involved with multiple other violent robberies in the area.
In 2008, Gibson was convicted and served time for a homicide and commercial robbery in Delaware.
