Gerald Meerschaert Now Has the Most Submissions in UFC Middleweight History
Gerald Meerschaert notched his seventh career UFC submission over Bartosz Fabinski. Meerschaert was able to secure an insanely tight power guillotine when Fabinski went for a takedown up against the fence. The fight was called just two minutes into the first after Fabinski appeared to go out momentarily.
For Gerald Meerschaert, the victory meant that he is now the sole leader in submission victories for the UFC Middleweight Division. Meerschaert arrived in Vegas tied with Demian Maia and three other fighters at six. All told, “GM3” has 24 submission wins over his pro career.
He has gotten the submission via multiple methods over his long MMA career. Meerschaert has secured wins by guillotine, standing guillotine, arm-bar, Kimura and Anaconda chokes, among others.
“I‘ll be in the record books for as long as that stands. Hopefully I can extend it and keep that legacy going,” he said post-fight.
Meerschaert was also awarded a $50,000 performance bonus at the end of the night.
Meerschaert’s big night came just as he and his wife are expecting a baby in the coming days. “I’ve gotta go home and learn how to be a dad real quick then hopefully I can get back and fight near the end of the year,” he said in his post-fight interview.
