“The Black Belt Killer” Rodolfo Vieira finds himself in a featured prelim slot at UFC 258. He will be taking on Anthony Hernandez, who has three UFC fights under his belt.
Hernandez last lost to Kevin Holland in the opening seconds of a bout on the UFC Jacksonville cards back in May. All told, Hernandez is 1-2 in the UFC, his other loss coming via submission to Markus Perez.
As for Vieira, his overall MMA record comes far short of telling the full story. Though just 7-0, Vieira is an elite Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner. He has won all but won of his seven fights via submission, including both of his UFC appearances.
He last battled some adversity in order to secure a first round arm triangle against Saparbeg Safarov back in May. Vieira suffered a nasty cut on his eye that could have potentially threatened his ability to continue, but he kept hunting for the submission and eventually got it.
Rodolfo Vieira is one of those fighters who steps in the Octagon purely in search of a submission. As a result, this is a rare breakdown that doesn’t require an in depth analysis.
If Hernandez is able to stuff the take downs, his chances of winning will go up. But if Viera gets an opening, he will relentlessly hunt for the submission. Eventually, fighters who are known for one thing will get tested, but I don’t think Hernandez is going to be that test. Ultimately, I expect Rodolfo Vieira to secure the submission and the line reflects it. If Hernandez was submitted by Markus Perez, who is no longer with the UFC, he will have a tough time against Vieira.
Rodolfo Vieira by submission currently sits at -190 on FanDuel, which is a steep price. As a result, I see this prop as an excellent parlay piece and nothing more. I used it for some multi-sport parlays and it’s the last leg that needs to cash, which is always nice, but for this card I placed 1u on Vieira by submission parlayed with Kamaru Usman moneyline, as well as 5.u on a parlay with Kelvin Gastelum moneyline. Check out more UFc 258 breakdowns below.
Prediction and play: Rodolfo Vieira by submission (-190).
