In an unexpected turn of events, the Jalen Hurts led Philadelphia Eagles stunned the New Orleans Saints on Sunday evening. Hurts was named the starter earlier in the week and came out on top against one of the top defenses in the NFL.
In his first start, Hurts dominated on the ground and in the air. He totaled 106 rushing yards on 18 carries and threw for 167 passing yards and a touchdown. Another key stat was that Hurts did not force a single turnover or be sacked once. This was something that has plagued Carson Wentz who leads the league the NFL and both those categories this season.
The first quarter was slow for the most part but the Eagles got on a roll and put up 17 points in the second quarter. This momentum carried them along for the rest of the game. A key moment in the second quarter was on a 4th and 2 in the Red Zone. The Eagles went for it and Hurts delivered a strong throw despite taking a hit (watch end of video) to Alshon Jeffery in the end zone.
After the game, reports came out from ESPN’s Chris Mortenson that it is likely the Eagles will start Jalen Hurts for the remaining three games this season. With a win, the Birds still trail by only a game and a half from first place in the NFC East with a record of 4-8-1. They finish the year against Arizona, Washington, and Dallas.
