Poland becomes fourth nation to have both a male and female UFC Champion following Blachowicz win

Jan Blachowicz became the first male UFC champion from Poland when he KO’d Dominick Reyes this past Saturday. The 37 year-old Blachowicz secured UFC gold despite closing as close to a 2-to-1 underdog. The win for Blachowicz meant that Poland became just the fourth country to have had both a male and female UFC champion. Joanna Jedrzejczyk — who is also from Poland — of course defended the Strawweight belt five times from 2015-17.

Blachowicz was mobbed by fans at the airport upon his return home.

Brazil and the United States have boasted several champions, both male and female. The only other country that has had both is the Netherlands. Germaine de Randamie and Bas Rutten are the champions from that country.

Following the victory, Blachowicz called out Jon Jones. He also mentioned Thiago Santos, who is currently slated to face Glover Teixeira in November. Jones of course vacated the belt earlier this year, citing lack of pay and other factors.
