President Trump called Colby Covington during his post-fight press conference

Colby Covington and former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley finally settled their long awaited grudge match on Saturday night. Covington — who recently fought for the belt against current champ Kamaru Usman — emerged victorious. Colby was largely dominant throughout the entire fight, constantly backing Woodley up while out-striking and out-grappling him. Covington out-struck the former champ 113-2 in the fourth round. Woodley then appeared to injure his ribs in the fifth while eating ground-and-pound, prompting the fight to be stopped.

The fight was a huge victory for Colby Covington, who was looking to get back into the win column following a hotly contested title fight back in December. A dominating win against Tyron Woodley is certainly a way to do just that, especially considering how long this fight has been anticipated. It was initially thought that the two would fight for the undisputed championship in 2018, but Woodley eventually lost the belt to Kamaru Usman before the title fight could be made.

A big part of the Colby Covington marketing plan is his die-hard support for President Trump. Covington can usually be seen sporting a MAGA or “Keep America Great” hat at press events. The California native is very vocal about the opportunities he’s had to meet the President and most recently did so at Trump’s Nevada rally.

Trump met with Dana White and a group of UFC fighters that included Henry Cejudo, Justin Gaethje and Colby Covington. The President introduced each fighter during his speech while Colby posted about the meeting on Instagram. “We love you man, you’re with us and we’re with you,” Trump said after showering Covington with praise for two minutes.

Covington again got in touch with the President following the big win against Woodley. During the post-fight press conference, President Trump called Covington to congratulate him. “I’m proud of you man, I’m proud of ya. I just made a big speech, I had 35,000 people, I said I wanna get home now to watch Colby,” Trump said while on speaker phone. Covington then thanked the President for giving him the “dragon energy” and said that nobody was going to stop him after that. Maybe Trump can call him dragon while Colby calls the President night hawk?

Colby Covington also dedicated his fight to first response and military personnel in his post-fight interview. “Ladies and gentlemen, the silent majority is ready to make some noise. If you thought that was a beating, wait until November 3rd when Donald Trump gets his hands on sleepy Joe. That’s gonna be a landslide,” he said.

Covington then criticized Lebron James and other athletes. “I’m sick of those woke athletes and these spineless cowards like Lebron James,” he continued.
