According to Marc Raimondi of ESPN, Angela Hill is set to make her commentary debut tomorrow night at the UFC Apex Facility. Hill will serve as an analyst for UFC on ESPN 15: Shahbazyan vs. Brunson. “Quick sesh at the (UFC performance institute) before my debut on @ESPNMMA tommorrow,” Hill said in a tweet.
Angela Hill was the first African American female fighter ever signed by the UFC. Now, she will be making history again as the first female fighter to get behind the mic for the promotion.
Now 34, Hill is coming off of a controversial loss to Claudia Gadelha in Jacksonville this past May. Angie Overkill’s loss was one of several controversial decisions on the night and her fan base was not happy. She will be getting back to action against Michelle Waterson on August 22nd, but not before making her commentary debut.
Angela Hill has become a fan favorite in recent years, thanks in part to her A+ social media game. If Darren Till is the social media king of the UFC, Angela Hill is the queen.
Hill also loves to stay busy, as evidenced by the fact that she racked up six fights in a calendar year from March, 2019 – February, 2020. Hill also holds the record for most appearances in the Strawweight Divison (15).
Hill will be joining a rotation of fighter analysts that currently includes Daniel Cormier, Dom Cruz, Paul Felder, Michael Bisping and Dan Hardy. Hardy most recently landed himself in hot water after exchanging words with Herb Dean over what he believed to be a late stoppage in the fight between Jai Herbert and Francisco Trinaldo. Herb Dean called Hardy’s actions “dangerous” and it is unclear if the move to add Hill to the rotation is related in any way.
Either way, I’m excited to hear Angela Hill behind the mic! Watch UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan on ESPN+ at 6PM, Eastern Time.
