Doubling down on their “fact check” of President Trump just the other day, Twitter has censored one of President Trump’s tweets in regards to the Minneapolis riots. “These thugs are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen” Trump said in a tweet. “Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you” tweeted the President at 12:53, Eastern Time.
Within two hours, the tweet was masked by a disclaimer stating that the tweet “violated the Twitter rules about glorifying violence” and all interaction was removed.
This monumental action comes on the heels of Trump’s executive order aimed at curbing big tech censorship. Those in favor of the action argue that companies like Twitter operate as publishers, not public platforms. If Jack Dorsey is able to control what is said, what trends and who is allowed to be on Twitter, they argue that the platform should not be entitled to section 230 protections. Section 230 essentially requires social media platforms to act as neutral forums. If the content is being meddled with, the company is far from a neutral forum and shouldn’t gain any special privileges.
There has been a repeated pattern of social media censorship against conservatives over the years; with terms of service violations being selectively applied. Reddit is a particularly egregious example. About a year ago, Reddit “quarantined” (removed from the main page, can only be accessed with a disclaimer) the site’s largest pro Trump community in r/the_donald. The site’s admins claimed that the subreddit had “incited violence” over a handful of down-voted comments calling for violence.
While r/the_donald was quarantined, people were quick to document the numerous violent statements coming from the left. While some of these subreddits have since been quarantined, it was months after r/the_donald was effectively taken down. The laundry list of violent threats was readily available from day one but Reddit refused to take action, only selectively applying the policy to r/the_donald. Here is a list of over 25+ violent threats from leftists on Reddit, which is only a snippet.
The same can be said this morning about Twitter’s “glorifying violence” policy. The policy only seems to apply to President Trump, seeing as how multiple violent tweets can be found in just the past 24 hours alone. If we’re talking tweets from “literally who”, we could go on all day. There’s a mountain of open calls for militant violence on Twitter and if we wanted to do a rolling article on that, I’m sure we could add 50 tweets a day.
In addition to that, blue checkmarks – who get more likes on their tweets than President Trump – are openly calling for or glorifying violence with 0 repercussions. Anyways, enjoy the list. Keep in mind that this is just over the last few days.
