Love or hate Donald Trump, you’ve got to admit that a Trump attack ad is a different animal. Trump has made his political career off of going on the attack, taking down establishment politicians on both sides of the aisle in the process.
Trump never truly stops going on the offensive, but now his attacks can be more focused. With Joe Biden all but officially the nominee, the Trump campaign can naturally direct almost all of their firepower in one direction.
To that end, it’s already become clear that the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent consequences for China will play a huge role in the upcoming election. Nations across the globe are pivoting to move key manufacturing away from China as soon as possible, including Japan. As evidence only mounts that the Chinese government, at least, lied to the world and concealed the true nature of the outbreak, this sentiment will only grow.
The U.S. government is also investigating a virology lab in Wuhan, believing the virus may have leaked from this location. State Department officials had raised concerns about the lab in 2018, according to The Washington Post. The officials stated that the lab had “a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory”, they dispatched to Washington.
As the facts continue to come out, it is certain that the Chinese government is negligent in some way or another.
The Trump campaign has seized on this politically, releasing a blistering attack ad focusing on Joe Biden. The ad touts Trump’s leadership – citing the travel ban – while painting Biden as pro-China.
This attack ad is a true post Citizens United monstrosity, or work of art depending on how you wanna look at it. Complete with avengers style music and painting the opponent in the absolute worst way possible, this one has it all.
Expect to see plenty more blunt attack ads from the Trump campaign this election cycle. Trump’s style is basic but effective. No amount of spin can defend the Chinese government on this issue, including feckless racism accusations. Trump appeals to emotion in ways that past GOP presidential candidates have proved unable to do, and as a result, his message reaches outside the tent. The straight talking way of speaking is what has won Trump his base, and it is shaping up to be a total mismatch with a deteriorating Joe Biden.
