The Best Bets for Week 6 of the NFL Season

After a disastrous start to the season, my picks have been steadily getting better. I have learned to give more respect to some of these teams that are playing with backup quarterbacks. I had previously been underestimating the Kyle Allens and Teddy Bridgewaters of the world, and they have made me pay. So Kyle and Teddy, don’t let me down here fellas. I’m counting on you. My future children’s college fund is at stake.

Chiefs -4 over Texans

This reeks of an overcorrection. If not for the clunker last Sunday night against the Colts, presumably the Chiefs would be a touchdown favorite. Patrick Mahomes’ ankle is a little worrisome, but I expect the Chiefs to right the ship against Houston. I see a shootout between 2 great young QBs, but I’ll take the Chiefs at home by a touchdown. Chiefs win, 35-28.

Panthers -2.5 at Buccaneers

I’m finally going to give the Kyle Allen-led Panthers some much deserved respect. They’re better than the Bucs, and only need to win by a field goal to cover. The Bucs have shown some  life with their wins in Carolina and in LA, but were still talking about the Bucs and Jamarcus Winston (once again, credit the Dirty Sports podcast for the nickname). Christian McCaffrey is absolutely balling out right now, and I don’t see him slowing down anytime soon. As good as he was with Cam Newton at the helm, perhaps he’s better off with Kyle Allen. Carolina has looked really good lately. Panthers over Bucs, 28-20.

Saints +3 at Jaguars

Sorry Gardner Minshew, but I have to call BS here. The Saints have been playing some real solid ball lately with Teddy Bridgewater at QB. Jacksonville’s defense has been less than stellar as of late, and was carved up last weekend by Christian McCaffery. I could see Alvin Kamara having similar success here. I’m taking the Saints to win outright, 28-24.
